A bit about me..

I’m operating on the assumption that the only people who will be reading this are my lovely family and friends but just incase you’ve managed to navigate yourself onto this page and we’ve never met; here’s a little bit about me.

Welcome to my blog!

I’m Rumali, I was born in Sri Lanka but grew up in gorgeous Dorset before moving to London after 3 years at The University of Birmingham. My favourite hobby is going to TK Maxx on payday.

I’ve recently left my job in TV production in pursuit of creative endeavours. However, I’m now in my third month of fun-employment and find myself being rapidly radicalised by Shera Seven (*sprinkle sprinkle lady) and so I thought I should redirect some of my screen time into an alternative outlet. Whilst at uni, I was very lucky to work under the university’s marketing arm as a Student Content Producer where part of my role included writing bi-weekly blogs which I absolutely adored doing- so here I am, back to my roots!

Where did the name The Rum Diary come from?

If we’ve never met before, there is a chance you’ve pronounced my name wrong. Rumali is pronounced {ru-mil-ee} as opposed to {ru-marley}. I’m clarifying this to highlight that this blog is not named (or pronounced) after Rum: the beloved spirit, but rather my nickname Rum and is a nod to the 2011 film, The Rum Diary.

What kind of blog posts can you expect?

Great question! I’m not entirely sure myself; but as vegetarian with non-high street friendly dimensions: full bust and being petite only in length not width, who loves a vino and is partial to many a Vinted purchase; I’m thinking restaurant/ bar recommendations coupled with fashion and other lifestyle bits.

What’s Rumali Reads?

You may have noticed that in the footer of this blog I have signposted my Youtube, TikTok and Spotify channels: Rumali Reads. People have always been far too nice about my voice and I’ve decided to run with this and have a crack at narrating. I’m currently making my way through The Prince and The Pauper by Mark Twain. In the interest of transparency, I was not previously an avid classic novel reader, but due to copyright laws I’m unable to narrate any books that are not in the public domain, so pre-1923 published classics it is!

Thanks for reading!

Love and hugs,

Rumali xx
