The Quality Chop House Weekday Set Menu: A Vegetarian’s Review

The Quality Chop House and it’s neighbouring bar: Quality Wines are on my bus route and being charmed by the by the restaurant’s exterior, I proceeded to make many a mental note that I must visit.

Upon further research, I discovered that it is hailed as one of the best places in London to get a steak and so I wasn’t holding my breath in terms of it’s vegetarian selection of items. I also discovered that they do a weekly set menu which is priced at £29 for 3 courses. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offered vegetarian replacements to said set menu and thought for the price, I had to try it.

Their weekday set menu is available Tuesday - Friday from 12:00 until 14:45 and changes fortnightly.

I often find that in restaurants like this, the veggie options typically feel like a scrambled after thought which are put on the menu for the purpose of optics and don’t hold a candle to their meat counterparts.

I’m delighted to report that this was not the case here and the meal was absolutely sublime. It was clear that the veggie dishes were considered and created with pride.

The only annoying thing about the vegetarian set menu is that you don’t know until the day-of exactly what you’re going to be eating. A member of staff told me that this is because the menu is dependent on what variation of the wider A La Carte menu is being prepared for service that day. You can of course have a look at the A La Carte menu to deduce what you’re likely to be eating but be prepared that this might vary. With the exception of lemongrass heavy dishes, I’m not a particularly fussy eater, so this wasn’t a deterrent to me. However, it’s something to consider if you are.

I can vouch for the quality of the food and it’s value for money, so my recommendation would be to embrace the element of surprise and give it a go!
